Hi Heat! Hi Humidity!

Ever wonder what it’s like running in high heat and high humidity? Unfortunately, I do! The best description I can think of goes like this. It’s like running with a wet plastic bag over your head.  It was so bad I couldn’t finish the run.  It must have been bad 'cause my Garmin GPS watch was all over the place.  I'm not sure were it had me starting.  I started where I finished.  It is much better running in the morning.
According to my weather station, temps were 96.4 °F, heat index of 102.3 °F, with 42% humidity.

Finally back to 11

Not that an eleven minute mile is all that much to brag about, but it sure beats not running at ALL!
It’s not too bad given the absolute miserable temperatures we’ve had lately. I find myself unexcited about running. I’m still undecided as to whether or not I should run the DRC White Rock Half Marathon. I suppose I should make up my mind soon, before the price increases on September 2nd.

Passed the CISSP Exam!

Well, I got the email everyone fears.  For those of you who have taken the exam, you know what I mean. Thank goodness it was a congratulatory email informing me that I passed the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®) examination - the first step in becoming certified as a CISSP.  It is a very tough and loooong exam, only six hours!

11 minute struggle

That stupid summer cold really set me back. I find myself struggling to get back to an 11 minute mile. I have to fight my way back to where I was before my cold. I guess the point is not to give up. My motto is “run to live not live to run.”

Easy Run

Given the fact that Pepper and Jack hadn't run in a while either, I decided to break them back in slowly as well. Not too bad of a run. We ran later in the evening and I realized it was a bit hotter than I thought. We stopped short and walked the rest of the way. We will be back to normal before you know it.

Mirage!

Nope! Those are indeed clouds. With clouds you get cooler weather and so goeth our all time record number of days in a row above 100. Feeling better, I had to go out for a *very* easy and slow run. If you haven’t run in a while, you just can’t start right back where you left off. At least not if you want to avoid injury. All in all, it was an okay run.

Cold in Texas!

Yup! That’s right! I’ve had a summer cold now for the last five days and can’t seem to shake it. My running is suffering big time. My dogs aren’t too happy either. They really enjoy their morning runs. All that said, it’s probably a good thing. Much of Texas continued roasting today in record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures that sent utility companies scrambling to keep up with demand. Last week, we broke 5 day record highs in a row! We are well on track for breaking total number of consecutive days above 100 degrees this Saturday! In the meantime, I've got to get back to running!!!

5 Mile Run

Another awfully hot day in Dallas.  It started off at 86.2 °F with a heat index of 88.2 °F.  Looks like I’ll be keeping my runs short or at a lower pace. It’s just too dang hot! I guess a 5 mile run is always better than a no mile run.

Back From CISSP Training

Very hard run this morning.  I was in class last week and didn't get a chance to run.  It's amazing how much time you lose by taking a few days off.  Not the best run I've had.  Point is, you have to keep it up. Dallas is heading toward a record. The city recorded 42 straight days of 100-degree temperatures.  So far this summer Dallas has recorded 38 days with temperatures at or above 100. This puts 2011 in the 10th spot for greatest number of 100-degree days.

Kegerator Conversion

One of my many hobbies is beer making. I spent some time in Belgium and fell in love with the beer! When I returned to the states, I quickly discovered I couldn't find the same beer here.

So, I decided to make my own. I found that bottling my beer produced mixed results and later decided to start kegging my beer. I bought a refrigerator and turned it into a KEGERATOR!

Kegging your beer produces far better results than bottling your own beer AND it takes less time! Want to make your own kegerator? Check out how I built my kegerator. Cheers!
